47th Ann Arbor Film Festival Animation

I had the joy of animating this years promotion video for the Ann Arbor film Festival again.  This years slogan is “welcome to the new world of independent cinema“.  Ryan designed a very detailed Map for the campaign that I brought to life in this animation.  Music outtakes from The Life Aquatic sound track were provided by Mark Mothersbaugh from DEVO.

Scientific Rationalism – Collage 1 of 4

This is the first collage in a series of four, about different views of truth and reality.
Most of the cutouts were found in magazines dating from the early 1990′s

The idea came from an Essay by Walter Truett Anderson entitled: Four Different Ways to be Absolutely Right featured in the book “The Truth about the Truth”

Self-Portrait Photography Abstracted

I have been working on some new self-portraits lately.  I really enjoy taking the digital photos to a realm of abstraction using textures. It gives the digital image a warmth that I usually only feed with film photography.

Double Exposed Polariod Series

This Polaroid series was shot with an old vintage Polaroid Land Camera 100.  Each image was double exposed on high speed Type 667 black and white Polaroid film.  The idea behind this series was to create a subjective dream world through an instant photo format.  This series was one of my final projects for senior studio at the College for Creative Studies.  I have written about this photographic series and several other projects in more detail in my undergraduate thesis paper.

This series was featured in two art exhibitions in 2008.

- Genesis (Atomic Art Co-op), Ann Arbor, MI. USA (2008)
- Trans Atlantic, Ann Arbor, MI. USA (2007)

The entire group of Polaroids can be viewed here or,
Each Polaroid image is available to be viewed in detail below:

46th Ann Arbor Film Festival TV spot

I had the joy of creating the animated TV spot for the 46th Ann Arbor Film Festival.

This video aired on local TV and in the Michigan Theater to promote the festival.  It was an especially hard hit year for the festival due to the funding cut form the Michigan government.

The Festival’s logo and visual concept for the 46th festival are the work of Raul Peña.  Music and sound design by Steve Dannemiller
