Treasure Chest

Treasure Chest was my first stop-motion animation.  I wanted to keep the story short and sweet.  Using minimal set design and focusing instead on lighting and shot composition to set the mood.

“The Precious” (24 Hour Compeition)

A very quick video created for 24 hour video competition at CCS.  Their were three teams, traditional animation, 3D animation and lastly the motion graphics groupAaron Mustamaa was the only one who wanted to join me in the third group and together in about 8 hours in the basement of CCS.  Every team was to create an animation based on the same audio  sample from Lord of the Rings.  Aaron and I jammed out on two PC computers since After Effects installed on the Intel Mac was not a Universal Binary program at the time.  This allowed for faster rendering and quick turnaround of the video.  The following video was the result:

WATER

The idea for this short film originally was an extention of the film Sinneskopf.  I wanted to tell a similar story with an emphasis on bluring the lines of reality, dream and memory.  The film naturally evolvend into its own sotry and WATER became the primary visual metaphor throught the piece.  Kim Johnson played the leading roll,  I was also to appear in the film as a memory but later decided to edit those scenes out.  The concept was c0-develped in conjunction with John Lloyd who also co-directed and shot the video with me.  This film was actually shot 2 times.  The first time just as a rough story without any focus on lighting or set design.  Then completly reshot with dramatic light and fog effects.  All of the sound effects were editing in post prodution, with a few exceptions  the audio is completly non-sync sound.

The story of Little Suck-a-Thumb (Daumenlutscher) – Struwwelpeter

Inspired by the childrens book Struwwelpeter, this remake of the Daumenluscher story was created out of papercuts taken from 1960′s fation magazines.  I decided to change the ending of the story to be more humerious.  Apprently I am not the only one who finds this story worth animating, another darker version of the story exsists.  A few years later I would create another animation from teh Struwwelpeter book Suppen Kaspar.
